The things we leave behind are not just discarded objects, but fragments of our identity, carrying memories, emotions, and the traces of who we once were.

Intro

Our lives and routines are shaped by the things we own. The decisions we make about buying, keeping, or discarding our belongings are not only influenced by functionality and our physical capacity, but are deeply entangled with psychological, social, and emotional factors. Material objects act as settings for our lives, anchoring memory, identity, and relationships.

To ease the transition for new students at the Royal College of Art, a platform can serve as a shared library of belongings, connecting incoming and outgoing students through the exchange of useful items. Departing students can contribute objects they can’t take with them, while newcomers can find what they need from a curated collection. Beyond practicality, the platform fosters a sense of continuity and community, allowing meaningful possessions and their memories to continue on.
